| Week
1: |
|
The first week of the quarter is concerned with image acquisition.
Through the processes of scanning and digital photography you will
turn your analog work into digital resources that you can draw from
as you complete the Virtual Client assignment. You will also begin
thinking about how you can create a compelling web narrative that
helps to reveal your design intent. If you are new to computing
it would be wise to review the material contained within the Other
section of the tutorials.

|
Week
2: |
| During the
beginning of week two we begin our exploration of Pagemaker. Although
this software package is designed to create large printed posters
and multi-page booklets, you will use it to start thinking about a
"look" for your web pages. Later in the week we will take
a cursory look at HTML, or Hypertext Markup Language, the scripting
code that makes the creation of web pages possible. |
| Week
3: |
| Week 3 you
will learn about "WYSIWYG", or "What You See Is What
You Get", web creation software. Specifically, you will explore
how to use, Claris Home Page and Macromedia Dreamweaver, to create
web pages. Your goal this week will be to create and post the web
skeleton of your Virtual Client web page. |
| Week
4: |
| This week
you will be introduced to, Photoshop, a powerful raster based image-editing
package. You will be exposed to examples that illustrate how this
software is applicable to the design process in Landscape Architecture,
and finally, you will use Photoshop to produce digital images that
will be posted to your 440 website in an effort to better your web
narrative. |
| Week
5: |
| Week 5 you
will not be exposed to any new information, and instead, have the
opportunity to soak in what you have learned, continue to work, catch
up, and meet with the instructors one on one to discuss your progress.
At the end of this week you will "officially" post your
440 website for the second time. |
| Week
6: |
| During week
6 you will be exposed to Illustrator, a vector based image creation
and editing software package. Like your tour of duty in Photoshop,
you will be exposed to how this software is applicable to the design
process in Landscape Architecture, and you will produce digital images
using Illustrator that will later become part of your Virtual Client
narrative. |
| Week
7: |
| This week
you will be exposed to the world of 3-d modeling, and will begin to
learn how to use the software package, Form-Z. You will again see
how 3-d modeling is applicable to our profession, and will take on
the challenge of creating a 3-D landform. Hold on, remember to breathe,
and enjoy! |
| Week
8: |
Week 8 gives
you the opportunity to dig deeper into the world of Form-Z, and you
will be exposed to more advanced issues such as the creation of vegetation
and architectural elements. By the end of two weeks of Form-Z you
will be able to produce images of a
3-D world that helps to reveal your design intent in a new and unique
way.
|
| Weeks
9 and 10: |
| By the end
of week 8 you will have been exposed to all the software packages
that are taught in this course, and will have two weeks to finalize
your 440 website. This will be the homestretch as you approach the
final web posting due by midnight on the Monday of exam week. |
