To help you understand some of the topics discussed in the more theoretical pages, this portion of the Tapestry is dedicated to illustrating what happens when you try to apply the theory.
The Textured Tree
is a project by Jon Richardson, done in 1997 as an independent project for the arch 481 course. Rendering was done using StrataVision 3.1. The goal of the project was to develop a set of pages illustrating how the various texture variables change the resulting image.
Shadow Studies
is under construction. When complete, the images will illustrate the various rendering options available with the formZ program. These images are intended to illustrate the accompanying pages.
The Cooling Tower
is a project to visually document and record techniques developed by graduate student Pakorn Mahapant in 1997 while working on a design project for an Arch 504 studio.
Bentwood Chair
David Richardson created this case study illustrating the modeling of a "bentwood" chair in Winter quarter, 2000.
Cut & Fill
This case study, created by landscape architecture student Chad Whichers in 1998, explores the way in which form-Z can be used to supplement and enhance cut and fill calculations in the landscape.
Belltown
Illustrating the creation of a an urban terrain model as well as a 3D city model, this case study shows how the "Belltown Charrette" model was created by a group of students around 1999.
Plastic Relief Map
This example shows how you can take a scan of a topo map and turn it into a terrain model, using the scan itself to help make the model "read".
Table Lamp
The behavior of light in a real scenes is quite complex, and most rendering only approximates these behaviors. One of the major challenges which arises is the creation of lights or lamps that both illuminate a scene and appear properly within it.
