  Adding text

Inserting text into your poster is simple.

On the work area you should see a Pagemaker Tool palette, most likely in the upper left-hand corner. See the button with the "T"? This is the Text tool that you will use to add text to your poster. Simply click on the Text tool and move it to wherever you want your text to be; then click.

One tricky thing about Pagemaker is that when you use the text tool, it automatically places the cursor on the far left-hand margin of your page (unless you draw a text box with the cursor). Don't let this throw you. You'll be able to to move text around the page just like an image.

Formatting text
You can use the Control Palette to control the formatting of your text. It looks like this:
If you don't see it on your work area, just go to Window>Show Control Palette. Here are just a few of the formatting options you can set using the Control palette:

Size: You will also notice that the text you start to type on your page will be very small. This is also a default function of Pagemaker. To increase the size, simply type the text you want, select it with the mouse, and then change the size in the Control palette.
Typeface: You can also change the typeface of your text. Again, just select the text and change the typeface in the Control palette. You can try out a number of fonts to determine which ones you think read best. Be careful about how you use fonts in your poster, though. Using a number of different fonts can not only be visually unappealing but it can also distract from the substance of your message.

Color: You can change the color of your text by selecting it and then clicking on a new color in the Color palette. If you don't see this palette just go to Window>Show Colors.

NOTE: In most cases it will be difficult for you to enter all of the text you will use in your document into a single text box. When you have completed one text box, simply click on the arrow tool in the Pagemaker toolbox to deselect the text box. The next time you want to add more text, click on the "T" button and begin the process again.
