  Paint Attributes

Every object within a piece of Illustrator artwork has a fill and a stroke attribute associated with it.
Paths can be filled or stroked with color, or they can be both.
Filling an object paints an area enclosed by a path. Stroking an object outlines a path itself.

Filling closed paths vs. open ones:
When you fill an open path color is applied as if the endpoints of the path were connected.
