The Future Without Project

The Future Without project has been initiated by the Puget Sound Nearshore Partnership (PSNP) to develop a baseline assessment of the Puget Sound region in fifty years assuming no restoration actions are implemented. In subsequent projects, alternative restoration strategies will be overlaid onto this baseline in order to measure the potential benefits of restoration to the nearshore. The Urban Ecology Research Laboratory has joined up with the Future Without team to develop multiple baseline assessments in the form of scenarios. The ability to anticipate future conditions enables us to think critically about the implications of our actions today. The development of alternative future scenarios challenges us to integrate uncertainty into our planning and decision making.
